Connected by Ocean... Guided by Language
Poly-lingual was born from a desire to reconnect people with the languages, cultures, stories, and ancestral knowledge of Polynesia. Across islands and generations, language has always been more than communication. It carries identity, memory, relationships, and a way of seeing the world.
Our purpose is simple: to create pathways that help these voices travel, connect, and continue.
The girl behind this
I am Moenau Virau, born and raised between Tahiti and Raʻiātea.
I am the founder of Poly-lingual, a platform I launched in 2019 with a personal mission: to create a sustainable digital space where people could learn and connect with Reo Tahiti.
My passion for Polynesian languages has grown into a wider purpose, to share our languages, culture, and ancestral knowledge with those who feel called to learn and connect with Polynesia.
I am here to perpetuate the languages of Polynesia beyond borders, keeping them alive and passing them from one generation to the next.
My mission is to build a bridge between the islands, like the tentacles of Te Feʻe Nui, keeping us connected across the ocean.
Though our islands may be separated by vast distances, our languages remind us that we belong to something much greater.
I am proud to be part of this mission, and deeply grateful to walk this pathway under the eyes of my Tupuna.

“For me, language is more than words.
It is a Memory...an Identity... a Connection.”

Our Story
“A Journey of Connection”
Poly-lingual was born in 2019 from a simple need: Polynesian dance groups around the world were learning ʻOri Tahiti and wanted to go deeper by learning the language behind the culture. At the time, Moenau had the idea but no experience building an online language platform.
Then 2020 changed everything. During the pandemic, Moenau began making simple videos with her daughters, teaching them Reo Tahiti at home. She shared these moments on social media, and unexpectedly, they reached people far beyond our home.
The videos went viral, leading to television interviews, magazine features, and messages from the Polynesian community around the world asking for more. That was the moment we realized this could become something much bigger.
In 2020, Poly-lingual officially took shape. Moenau created an online platform, began offering live monthly workshops, and started building a space where people could learn Reo Tahiti from anywhere in the world.
Since then, Poly-lingual has grown into a global learning community, with students from many different countries.
We are proud to be the first and, to our knowledge, the only platform dedicated to teaching Reo Tahiti in English. And this is only the beginning. Today, the journey is expanding beyond Reo Tahiti.
Through the eight pathways of Te Moana Nui a Hiva, we are opening new doors to the languages, cultures, and ancestral knowledge of Polynesia.
One ocean. One people. One Polynesia.
Our Vision
“Keeping the Pathways Open”
Poly-lingual exists to make Polynesian languages and cultures more accessible to anyone who feels called to learn, discover, and connect.
Our vision is to create a living space where language, culture, and ancestral knowledge can be explored together across islands, generations, and borders. We are building more than a collection of courses and resources.
We are building pathways, Pathways for learning, Pathways for connection, Pathways for knowledge to continue moving forward.
Because the ocean has never truly separated our people. It has always connected us.
